Duty of disclosure - When you apply for insurance you have a duty under the Insurance Contracts Act 1984 to tell the truth and tell us any information which may affect our decision to provide insurance. If you do not, your right to receive a benefit under the policy may be reduced or the policy cancelled.

Exclusion - No benefit will be paid under this policy if death or terminal illness results directly or indirectly as a result of:

  1. Pre-existing conditions - the benefit is not payable if death or terminal illness occurs as a result of any injury, illness, condition, or related symptom which, in the five-year period prior to the policy commencement date, the insured person knew about or should have been expected to know about, or had consulted a medical practitioner about;
  2. Suicide, attempted suicide or related complications;
  3. Active participation in any riot, strike, civil commotion, coup, revolution, terrorist activity or active participation in any military, naval or airforce actions or
  4. You are not a permanent resident of Australia on the Policy Commencement Date.

Days of grace - The 30-day period we give you after the due date to make your premium payment.

Due date - The date each month your premium is payable. Your first payment is due on the Policy Commencement Date.

Insured Person - The Insured Person shown on the Policy Document Notice. If 2 people are insured, then 'Insured Person' refers to each of them.

Joint policy - You and your partner (or another person) can apply for immediate cover on the one application.

Legal personal representative - The person or people appointed to manage your estate under a grant of probate or letters of administration.

Life Insurance - A benefit payable in the event of death or diagnosis of Terminal Illness of the Insured Person.

Lump sum - A one-off payment.

Non-smoker - Anyone who has not smoked tobacco or any other substance in the last 12 months. This includes cigarettes, cigars, pipes and any illegal substances.

PDS - The Product Disclosure Statement.

Policy - Your insurance, which consists of this PDS and the Policy Document Notice.

Policy commencement date - The policy commencement date shown on your Policy Document Notice. (Please note that you are covered from the time a valid application is received by us.)

Policy Document Notice - A document showing your policy number and details of your cover.

Policy owner - The person or people shown as policy owner on the Policy Document Notice, or another person or group that takes over legal ownership of the policy.

Pre-existing condition - Any illness, injury, condition or related symptom, which, in the 5 years before the policy commencement date, the insured person:

  • knew about or should have been expected to know about or
  • consulted a medical practitioner about.

Premium - The amount you pay us for the insurance and can include stamp duty.

Renewal date - The anniversary of the Policy Commencement Date.

Sum Insured - The amount we will pay under the terms and conditions of your insurance.

Term Life Insurance - Pays a lump sum Benefit if the Insured Person dies or is diagnosed with a Terminal Illness.

Terminal Illness - A medical condition that in Suncorp's opinion, after having considered medical and any other evidence we may require, the Insured Person's life expectancy is not greater than 12 months, regardless of any available treatment.
