What you need to do to protect yourself

Your Suncorp card is a key to your accounts, so you must take special care to safeguard it. Unfortunately theft, fraud and loss do occur, but there are steps you can take to minimise your risk.

When you receive your card or PIN:

  • sign your card as soon as you receive it;
  • read and follow the instructions that came with the Card/PIN;
  • carry your card with you, in a safe place, whenever you can and regularly check that you still have your card;
  • try to memorise your PIN. If you need to record your PIN you must disguise it in such a way that no one else can identify it or work it out. If you select your PIN, do not use obvious references such as date of birth, telephone numbers, your name, postcodes etc;
  • do not keep a record of your PIN on your card, or on something you carry with your card. Keep it in a place where it will not be lost or stolen at the same time as your card; and
  • destroy notification of your PIN.

When using your card

Always:

  • keep a copy of transaction receipts (without card details), to compare to your statement; and
  • ensure no-one watches you enter your PIN.

To purchase goods or services:

  • don't let anyone swipe your card twice without giving you a 'transaction cancelled' receipt for the first swipe;
  • keep your card in sight at all times;
  • secure or destroy receipts with card numbers and void incorrect receipts; and
  • don't keep old receipts with your card, ie in your wallet or purse.

To get cash out:

  • be aware when withdrawing money from automatic teller machines (ATMs). If anything seems out of place with the machine, don't transact.

When transacting over the phone or Internet:

  • deal with reputable merchants; and
  • ensure that the Internet site has adequate security for protecting your card details.

To ensure your own security

Always:

  • check your statement and compare your transaction receipts;
  • monitor your account balance. You can easily do this via Suncorp Phone or Internet Banking;
  • read correspondence from Suncorp before discarding it. It may contain important card or account information; and
  • dispose of information relating to your card or account details in a secure manner and never in a public place.

Never:

  • lend your card to anyone;
  • leave your card or receipts lying around;
  • disclose your card details in an e-mail;
  • sign a blank transaction receipt; and
  • tell anyone your PIN, including family, friends, Police or Suncorp staff. Under no circumstances should our staff ever ask you to tell them your PIN.

What to do if you need help

If your card is lost or stolen, or if you think someone knows your PIN, please notify us immediately on 13 11 55 or 1800 775 020, and follow up with the details in writing. To dispute a transaction, or report a suspect transaction phone 13 11 55.

Note:
If you wish to dispute a credit card transaction that has been processed to your account you must tell us within 120 days of the transaction being processed.
If the date you advise us is more that 120 days from when the transaction was processed we may not be able to recover the funds on your behalf. Find our more about Chargebacks at Suncorp.
