Boat Insurance
2 types of cover
Suncorp offers you 2 types of cover.
Types available are:
- Comprehensive Cover - includes Essential Cover and also covers you for loss of or damage to your boat caused by an 'insured event'. (An 'insured event' means accidental loss or damage, fire, theft or attempted theft, malicious damage or storm damage. Insured Events must happen in the period of insurance and be unforseen or unintended by you.)
- Essential Cover - covers you for amounts you must legally pay for bodily injury or death of another person, or loss or damage to their property if the loss, damage, death or bodily injury is caused by your boat in an incident in the period of insurance. Our cover is limited to $10 million (or the limit shown on your certificate of insurance) which includes GST, as well as legal and other costs that we have agreed to pay when you make a claim.
Suncorp's Boat Insurance Comprehensive Cover includes the following:

| Loss of your hull or boat trailer or motor(s) under 2 years old |
We will replace your hull or boat trailer or motor(s) if:
- we decide it is a total loss and
- the insured event occurred within 2 years of the date of the original purchase or registration and
- you are the original owner and have serviced and registered it (if registration is legally required) since you bought it and
- the sum insured is equal to the full market value of your hull, boat trailer or motor(s), including all equipment and accessories listed on your certificate of insurance.
We will replace your hull or boat trailer or motor(s):
- with one of the same make and model if it is readily available locally within 6 weeks of our decision to settle the claim or
- with one of a similar make, model and price or
- if you choose, pay you for a total loss.
This feature is not available if your hull or boat trailer or motor(s) was damaged before the insured event which led to your claim.

| Accessories and equipment |
You are covered up to:
- an amount you have specified and this is shown on your certificate of insurance or
- 5% of the sum insured on the hull if no amount is shown on your certificate of insurance.
If you do not specify individual items, which are shown on your certificate of insurance, we will pay up to $2,000 for each item.
We will not pay these costs in addition to a total loss settlement.
Accessories include boat covers and canopies, batteries, portable fuel tanks, anchors, paddles, oars and similar items and safety equipment required by law.
Equipment includes depth sounders, marine radios/transceivers, navigation equipment, fish finders and similar items and your tender.

You are covered up to:
- an amount you have specified and this is shown on your certificate of insurance or
- 5% of the sum insured on the hull if no amount is shown on your certificate of insurance.
If you do not specify individual items, which are shown on your certificate of insurance, we will pay up to $250 for each item.
We will not pay these costs in addition to a total loss settlement.
Contents include portable household goods, clothing, appliances, fishing and diving gear, portable refrigerators, microwave ovens, televisions, glassware, crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils.

| Held for sale |
We will cover for loss, damage or theft of your boat while it is held for sale, if you told us beforehand you want to sell your boat and we agreed to cover your boat while it is held for sale. |
